This was the view outside of my work space in Venice for more than two years. The motley patchwork of rooftops, pipes and hedges created a beautiful abstract milieu that changed with the light and the seasons. In this painting I tried to capture the brilliance of the light and the feeling of lazy multitude. I also tried to let go of concrete form, and let certain elements -- such as the shapes floating on top of the black -- take on a new reality not grounded in "what it is", but rather as fascinating forms unto themselves.
